What’s homestay?
Homestay is full board accommodation with a local Australian family. Students pay around AU$220 to $240 per week for their accommodation. This includes all meals and shared facilities in the home.
Students share the home with their homestay family and have meals together and may join the family to visit grandparents, family friends or go on day trips.
Homestay families may have their own children or may be single, retired or a couple with no children. Students can indicate some preferences on their application form including:
- Airport pickup (recommended)
- Single or shared room

If the student wishes to live in a household with
- A smoker
- family pets such as dogs or cats
- other children
Cost
- Homestay: AU$220 - $240 per week (depending on the location of the home)
- Refundable bond: ususally 2 weeks homestay fee paid in advance and refundable at the end of stay
- Homestay placement fee: AU$220 (once off payment)
Other costs parents need to consider include school uniform, books, entertainment costs, stationery, school camp (if offered) and exam fees (exam fee costs are listed in the Standard International Student Application Form (PDF - 448Kb)).
