Student study tours

Short-term study tour programs are an excellent opportunity to gain experience of the Australian culture, improve English and learn more about Victorian Government Schools.

Under the Victorian Government education system, international student study tours have access to over 100 schools for a program. To date, over 150 schools have been involved in these programs in both city and regional areas.

Short-term study tours are generally between one day and three weeks long. Students who want to study longer should consider enrolling as a temporary international student (12 weeks or less), as a standard international student or on a Study Abroad package (6 or 12 months)

Study Tour programs are designed for groups of students wanting to undertake English language lessons and classroom interaction, or individuals who wish for a classroom experience with local students.

Programs can be 'tailor made' to suit your requirements and airport transfer can be arranged if necessary.

Host School

All programs are school-based, whether it is a 1 day or a 3 week program. The host school provides the school program, and where possible, arranges an excursion for the visiting students.

Schools require at least one semester (22-24 weeks) notice to plan a homestay program and find appropriate host families.

All English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers involved in the program are fully qualified ESL teachers. Classroom interaction takes place with local students e.g. IT classes, sports, drama, art, music, etc.

At the end of the visit students participate in a farewell party and are presented with a certificate.

Accommodation

The host school selects host families from the school community. All host families will provide full board and all meals.

Weekends are spent with the host family, joining in with usual family activities. Host families speak English as a first language in the home. Visiting students are accompanied by their host family to and from school.

Homestay accommodation can also be arranged for the accompanying teacher/adult escorts.

Procedures

Initial contact must be made with the Department of Education. No school is to be contacted directly. The Department endeavours to match appropriate host schools to meet the requirements of your visit.

Please remember: the earlier you place your request the better your chance of being hosted by a school of your choice. All students and accompanying adults must be covered by medical and travel insurance. Prior to arrival, students should attend a pre-departure meeting, to inform them of the differences they will find when living in Australia.

On the day of arrival, students are transferred from Melbourne International Airport to their host school where they meet their host family, and go home with them. Once the students arrive at the school, they are supervised and monitored by school staff.
