Cost of Living in Victoria
The State of Victoria provides a very high standard of living at a lower cost than many other industrialised nations. In particular, Melbourne, the capital of Victoria, is ranked 4th in the Asia Pacific region and 18th in the world for quality of living (Source: Mercer’s Annual Worldwide Quality of Living Survey). To assist in budgeting, we have prepared some indicative living costs (PDF - 1.4Mb). Please note that these costs will vary depending on the student’s lifestyle and individual circumstances.
Overseas Student Health Cover
It is a requirement of the Student Visa subclass 571 that the student has Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) while in Australia. Please refer to the Accommodation and Welfare Policy on page 6 of the Standard Application Form (PDF - 475Kb) for more information.
The International Education Division can arrange OSHC to be provided by Medibank. For information on the Medibank OSHC prices and policy details, please refer to www.medibank.com.au
If you do not want the Department to arrange OSHC, then the student’s parent or legal custodian is responsible for purchasing OSHC for the duration of the student’s stay in Australia. Evidence of OSHC must be provided to the International Education Division prior to the Letter of Confirmation being issued.
