The Victorian Government formally welcomed over 300 newly-commencing international school students to Victoria at the International School Student Welcome Reception on 15 March 2017.
Students and educators from Victorian government, independent and Catholic schools gathered at Government House where the Governor of Victoria, Her Excellency The Hon. Linda Dessau AC and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Premier, Ms Judith Graley, MP welcomed the new cohort of international students to Victoria, Australia.
The Governor of Victoria and the Parliamentary Secretary were joined by senior consular staff from China, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan and India who also welcomed our new starters.
International students, while brightening their horizons studying in Victoria, make our schools vibrant, enrich our cities and support the development of local students’ intercultural skills which are vital to succeeding in emerging industries worldwide.
The Governor of Victoria and the Parliamentary Secretary both voiced their appreciation for the unique and valuable contribution the international student community plays an in making Australia culturally and linguistically diverse.
"Global literacies, intercultural understanding and language learning are valuable contributing factors in realising Education State objectives and ensuring learners have the skills to succeed in life,” said the Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Premier.
