This comprehensive leadership program is developed specifically for Victorian women school leaders. It supports the goals of Victoria’s India Strategy: Our Shared Future 2025-30 by strengthening connections, enhancing economic cooperation, and deepening education and innovation ties between Victoria and India.

Benefits for school staff

The program supports schools to:

  • empower women educational leaders by strengthening their confidence, skills, and leadership identity in line with the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership (the Academy) Excellence Framework
  • build leadership capacity to integrate intercultural, global, and inclusive practices through the Global Learning and Engagement Framework
  • create a pipeline of globally engaged leaders ready for immersive learning and system-level influence
  • develop leadership practices across the system that prioritise equity, global awareness, and inclusive education
  • facilitate the strategic sharing of learning through school and network engagement, including inquiries, presentations, and system-wide collaboration.

Program structure

The program is structured in multiple parts, building progressively from self-awareness to system-level impact, aligned with the Department of Education (the department) priorities on excellence, equity, diversity, and global engagement.

It includes the following components:

  1. Women Leading: in Education (Part A): The first part of the program, Women Leading: In Education, is managed by the Academy. This foundational leadership program helps participants build a strong leadership identity, develop a clear vision, increase confidence, and enhance their influence within the education system. Successful completion of this stage is required before moving on to the next phases of the program.
  2. Women Leading: Globally Engaged Schools (Part B): Building on the foundation of Part A, Women Leading: Globally Engaged Schools extends participants' learning into the cultural realm by applying the Global Learning and Engagement Framework. This part focuses on embedding intercultural capability and global citizenship to develop system-wide leadership practices that reflect equity, global awareness, and inclusive education goals. Participants undertake an inquiry focus aligned with a specific dimension of the framework and produce an impact artefact that reflects their learning and leadership growth.
  3. Women Leading: In-country Engagement - India 2026 (Part C): The final component is an optional in-country engagement program focused on both personal and professional development. Participants will travel to India for immersive experiences including school visits, cultural activities, interactive workshops and professional learning with Indian education leaders. This stage will offer meaningful insights to broaden the inquiry focus developed during the Women Leading: Globally Engaged Schools program and foster impactful connections with schools in India. The program will take place in southern India (Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Kochi, Kerala) from 7 to 17 February 2026.
