Why families use an education agent

Many families choose to use an education agent accredited by the Department of Education (the department) to enrol their child in a Victorian government school. These agents act on your behalf to facilitate communication with government departments until the student arrives in Australia.

Role of an education agent before enrolment

Accredited education agents support international students and their families by providing comprehensive assistance with:

  • general enquiries: answering questions about studying and life in Melbourne and Victoria
  • financial guidance: calculating tuition and associated fees and costs
  • entry requirements: explaining academic and language requirements for school admissions
  • school selection: finding schools that match the student's academic and extra-curricular preferences
  • accommodation options: helping to explain and select suitable accommodation and welfare options
  • application process: navigating the application process, explaining terms and conditions, and ensuring understanding of invoice payments in the family's native language
  • healthcare coverage: choosing suitable overseas student healthcare cover
  • visa application: assisting with visa applications through the Australian Government
  • pre-arrival preparation: preparing students for their arrival in Victoria.

In some instances, there is no cost to you because the accredited education agent will receive a payment from the department for helping you throughout the whole application process.

Education agent accreditation

The department only accredits agents who meet rigorous criteria, including compliance and training requirements. Only these agents can represent the department.
