Teaching methods
Victorian government schools’ teaching methods allow students to learn in a way that best suits their individual needs. This supportive environment enables students to:
- express, analyse and develop personal ideas and opinions
- engage confidently with peers and educators
- cultivate independence and critical thinking skills
- experience practical, real-world learning
- establish strong, impactful relationships with teachers, which are fundamental to student success.
Our teachers will give students regular and constructive feedback on their overall progress to assist them with their academic progress. With a balance of teaching and learning methods, our schools aim to build the students' knowledge and skills. This prepares students for a range of assessments, tests and exams throughout the year.
Learning spaces
Victorian government schools are equipped with excellent facilities, including purpose-built, state-of-the-art learning centres, sports, and extra-curricular facilities. Our schools are designed to enhance collaborative and individual learning through a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces, ensuring that education extends beyond classroom walls.
Classrooms are versatile, supporting various forms of learning, and allow for discussions and practical activities, to be held in zones which use appropriate furniture and materials for certain types of learning including:
- soft-seating areas for small-group collaboration
- quiet places for students to reflect and work individually
- makerspaces (an area that provides students a space to be creative, design and experiment) where students can develop problem-solving skills by sitting alongside teachers, parents or mentors.
Our school facilities and infrastructure support a dynamic educational environment where students can engage with the environment and community.
Students also benefit from learning in settings outside of school, including parks, zoos, museums and galleries. These learning opportunities help students develop problem-solving skills by experiencing how theory applies in the real world.
This combined and dynamic learning approach recognises that effective education occurs in a variety of settings, all of these learning spaces promote:
- individual learning
- team-based projects
- reflective thinking
- creative exploration
- Technology integration
- hands-on learning
- real-world experiences.
Technology enriching our learning spaces
