Benefits for students

The program provides guidance and funding for schools to run activities and initiatives that:

  • build strong, sustainable and meaningful connections with the Indian community and provide students with global citizenship opportunities
  • increase the cultural mobility of students, enabling them to understand, appreciate and respect different cultural contexts
  • present students with opportunities to develop intercultural understanding and 21st century skills and enable them to be socially engaged and live in inclusive communities.

  • create collaborative partnerships with the Indian diaspora and the broader community
  • build student and community intercultural capability and global awareness
  • enhance awareness and understanding of India within the school community.

CSIC funded schools 2023

The following schools and projects were granted CSIC funding in 2023:

  • Dohertys Creek P-9 College: supported the development of a community art gallery that was co-designed by a local artist and families within the community, alongside cultural traditions and skills workshops.
  • Keysborough Secondary College: provided a whole-school Yoga Day and cultural celebration, alongside excursions to community cultural centres and the purchase of Hindi resources.
  • Lyndhurst Secondary College: supported the recognition of International Yoga Day and created a yoga club during community Diwali celebrations. They also organised an Indian night market, and a cultural dance and music education program.
  • Preston South Primary School: produced a Bollywood film with the students and a week of activities exploring and celebrating Indian cultures.
  • Wheelers Hill Secondary College: established a Learning Mentor program with students from local universities from Indian communities for lunch and after school clubs, and created a unit of work for Year 9, including an Indian banquet with local chef input, guest speakers and excursions.
