Hyeyun's story is one of resilience and determination as she navigated the challenge of being the only international female student in her year. Initially feeling isolated and struggling with the language barrier, Hyeyun committed herself to learning English, which enabled her to actively participate in class and build meaningful relationships with her peers and teachers.
She developed confidence by setting specific, achievable goals such as, improving communication skills and engaging in classroom discussions. Her dedication to self-reflection and regularly reassessing her progress, allowed her to adapt and grow, even during the isolating challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hyeyun’s steady perseverance has inspired her to support others. She now encourages connection and mutual learning by organising study groups that include both international and local students, creating a space for academic growth and cultural exchange. Her ability to overcome adversity and assist those around her highlights her resilience and strength of character.
